This originated with me sending regular emails to my close friends and family on environmental issues and changes which could ‘green’ their lifestyle. The group has unintentionally grown quickly as friends of friends ask to join. The EcoEmails don’t always give people an easy solution to a problem but try to make them aware that every decision they make has environmental and sustainability consequences. If you would like to join pls email me at

How GREEN and ethical are clothes shops?

Here is a list of who are the best and worst for different qualities:

Ethical trading and employee welfare

Best: Gap
Worst: Topshop

Best: Marks & Spencer

Worst: Supermarkets

Organic cotton
Best: H&M
However, the figures are still relatively small with around 160,000 T-shirts – a fraction of the clothing empire’s output.
Worst: Supermarkets

Best: Marks and Spencer
Worst: Supermarkets

The Environment
Best: Marks & Spencer

Worst: Supermarkets

But admittedly when we say they are the best… doesn’t mean they are good… just means they are doing a little more than the rest… best of a bad bunch… their impact is still pretty drastic…. but they just be credited for their efforts to encourage more to do good.
